The reason of using these two to diffuse a light is that some light won’t fit into a softbox nor have a softbox you can attach to it, like the Aputure Mini 20D which I am using in this video.

You might have notice the brightness and white balance shift in the two diffusers, while both are taken with the same camera, lens, setting and white balance. This is due to that the umbrella have rods in it which would block some of the lights and the shape of the umbrella being round would have only the middle being the closest to the subject whole outer rim is further away. While the screen is flat and have a larger surface that is closer to the subject. For the slight white balance shift its because both uses a different kind of material to diffuse the light. The umbrella is using a material that is noticeable slightly warmer tone of while while the screen is also a tad colder.

However with the umbrella when filming glossy surfaces, you could often see the umbrella in the reflections, but with the screen you won’t see the screen, but you need an additional stand to hold the screen.

Gear used for the light test:
Godox Umbrella – https://amzn.to/2C34XRE
Selens 5-in-1 Reflector – https://amzn.to/2VwPrGL
Aputure Mini20D – https://amzn.to/2SEpVxl
Manfrotto 1052BAC – https://amzn.to/2S9Mh9V
Phottix Varos Pro – https://amzn.to/2GqAxy5

Gear used filming this episode:
Panasonic GH5 – https://amzn.to/2LrLi25
Olympus 12mm f2 – https://amzn.to/2R8RJwp
Rode Smartlav – https://amzn.to/2PnAfr8
Coman Mini Slider – https://amzn.to/2VwF7yh
Rode NT USB – https://amzn.to/2VocR0O
Manfrotto Befree Live – https://amzn.to/2LvVhnj
Profoto B10 – https://amzn.to/2UTuNAi
Profoto Black White umbrella – https://amzn.to/2UTV5SV

Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro – http://goo.gl/k2EagF

If you appreciate what I do, you can support me by donating any amount here on paypal:
http://paypal.me/ChungDha

🎭 Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/chungdha
🌐 Website: http://www.chungdha.nl
📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chungdha/
🐦 Twitter https://twitter.com/chungdha

For any Questions Please Join our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/chungdhagroup

Business Inquiries, Sponsors & Collaboration email contact@chungdha.com

Chung Dha © 2019 Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong

In this video we are comparing the diffusion of using an Umbrella vs a Diffusion screen of a 5 in 1 reflector by Selens, which both are quite affordable method of diffusing light.
